Terracotta Sculpture Depicting Pan and Daphnis

Elegant terracotta sculptural group depicting the god Pan, the Greek deity of the woods and shepherds, alongside the young shepherd Daphnis, portrayed holding the syrinx, the characteristic pan flute traditionally associated with the woodland god. The composition is based on a celebrated Hellenistic prototype, known through Roman-period copies and widely embraced in Neoclassical and nineteenth-century artistic taste.

The work is distinguished by its harmonious composition, delicately modelled figures, and finely executed anatomical details, qualities that reflect the Italian Classicising tradition of the second half of the nineteenth century.
