The essence

Refined polychrome marble inkstand featuring an architectural composition inspired by the Neoclassical taste. The upper basin is carved from Rosso Antico marble and is supported by a small pedestal in African marble and Belgian Black marble.

The base combines Giallo Antico and Cipollino marbles and rests on elegant bronze lion-paw feet. The central support is adorned with a bronze lion’s head. Two lidded containers in Belgian Black marble, originally intended for writing accessories, are placed on either side. The combination of precious marbles and the restrained elegance of the design make this piece a fine example of late nineteenth-century Grand Tour production.
